Implement out-of-the-box replication support

Reported by Carl | December 14th, 2007 @ 01:32 PM

It would be nice if MySQL replication (master/slave) was supported, without requiring any code. That is, all "write" queries would be directed to the master, and the "reads" would go straight to the slave.

I am aware that this is already possible with some hacking, but being able to do this just by changing a configuration file would make things so much easier.

Hmm... this could potentially slow things down quite a bit I think since the query pipelines would have to change to iterators to write to configured writers and read from available readers...

Maybe not... I'll think about it. The write-side is probably not a big deal. I'm more concerned about slowing down the read-side.

Carl, I can appreciate the need for this feature but we're actually trying to stop using Lighthouse as a TODO list, and focus on using it to manage bugs and patches. It's our hope that if we can keep it lean, we'll be able to respond to issues more efficiently than we have in the past.

If you still want this feature perhaps you should post a message to the mailing list for discussion. It would be perfect as a plugin, and should be relatively simple to make. Repository is built so that the reader and writer methods are separate, so you could have the writes be sent to the master and the reads sent to a random slave in a list.
